Dear Moor Park residents,

On behalf of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre I wanted to say another huge thank you to the Moor Park Estate for your support with the Moor Park 10k. Please accept our thanks to all residents for your patience with the road closures on the event day, we truly appreciate it.

The coronavirus pandemic may have made it more low key than usual, but the Moor Park 10k was still a huge success. We had 390 runners and 24 local running clubs represented. The oldest runner was 81 years old and the winning time was a very impressive 34 minutes. 35 volunteers kindly gave up their time including a number of residents from the Moor Park Estate who help to marshal the course each year. Considering we only launched the event at the end of August, we were delighted to be able to deliver a COVID-19 safe event, whilst raising much needed funds for the cancer centre.

To date we have raised a fantastic £14,700 and sponsorship money is still coming in. If you would like to donate you can do so here: www.justgiving.com It was a real shame that we weren’t able to hold the fun runs but we have had a great response to our virtual event with over 110 people taking part in their own community, the majority of them being children from local schools.

Like others, the Hospitals’ Charity has struggled to raise vital funds during the pandemic and our cancer patients and loved ones, need our support now, more than ever. Our wonderful NHS cancer team have been working extremely hard to adapt our services to ensure normal service is resumed, and we treat as many cancer patients as possible, in a safe COVID-19 free environment. The money raised at the Moor Park 10k will be used to help provide guided telephone relaxation appointments, online support sessions and the production of video guides to help patients with breathing and visualisation techniques.

Next year’s event will be on Sunday 19 September 2021 at 3pm. It is our 20th anniversary so we will be trying to make this our biggest and best event yet. If any of the Moor Park residents or businesses would like to get involved, we will have sponsorship packages available in the New Year. We will also be introducing a walking 10k on the pavement which will set off earlier in the day. We are very mindful of residents’ access into the estate so this should reduce the road closure times by 15 mins or more.

We are so very grateful to you and the wider community, who make events like this possible. Thank you again for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Joe Dunster
